WSU's campuses cover an area
of approximately 1000 kilometers in the Eastern Cape, making it accessible
to students in a vast expancse of the underdeveloped eastern half of
the Province, home to over 4,5 million people.
With delivery sites in Buffalo
City, Butterworth, Mthatha and Queenstown, WSU will commence with six
(6) faculties; over 20,000 students; close to 1,000 staff and an operating
budget of almost half a billion rand.
WSU's main campus is situated
in Nelson Mandela Drive, Mthata (formerly the main
campus of Unitra). ECT's Zamkulungisa Heights campus nearby provides
additional infrastructure for WSU.
In Butterworth
the former main campus of ECT in Ibika and the former Unitra
satellite campus in the Vuli Valley provide further accessibility for
students in the under-developed areas of the former Transkei.
Further inland, the
form Queenstown satellite campus of ECT is the sole
provider of higher education in this area.
In Buffalo City,
WSU has several sites of delivery close to commerce and industry in
East London, where were formerly campuses of both BT and ECT. These
are at Potsdam (formerly the main campus of BT), Chiselhurst, College
Street, Cambridge Street and Absa Stadium.
WSU also has a delivery
site in Bhisho, the capital of the Eastern Cape Province.
