WSU PRESIDENT LISTED AMONG TOP SA YOUTH IN LAW
WSU alumnus and reigning Convocation President, Zincedile Tiya was listed among the top 100 most influential young South Africans in the category of Law and Governance in the year 2018, according to public votes.
The Most Influential Young South Africans initiative is an annual awards and ranking scheme for young South African achievers between the ages of 15 to 40 years, spearheaded by Avance Media to acknowledge and inspire tomorrow’s potential leaders and their efforts.
Tiya was emphatic about how young people must never doubt themselves and their potential because of their background.
“I feel honoured and humbled for being voted amongst South Africa’s Top 100 influential young people. I am extremely excited that a person like myself from the remote rural region of Mpondoland can be rated at this level by an international body like Avance Media,” Tiya said.
Tiya was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2014 and currently serves as chairperson of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) in the former Transkei region.
In addition, he also holds a NQF level 6 certificate in African Political Economy and African Thought Leadership from the Thabo Mbeki Institute.
“I wish all young people of South Africa could be involved in decision making bodies in our country because all decisions taken by these bodies impact on us directly now and in the future. We need to be game changers than armchair critics,” added Tiya.
Tiya serves on the Family Law Committee, Standing Committee of Legal Education and as an alternate on the Criminal Law Committee, Legal Aid Committee and Joint Law Society of South Africa/Attorneys Fidelity Fund Gats (incl. Foreign Qualifications Committee) of the Law Society of South Africa.
