DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

DIPLOMA: PUBLIC MANAGEMENT

Rules and Regulations

The possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or its equivalent shall serve as the general admission requirement in this programme.

Entrance Requirements

Senior Certificate Requirement

Applicants with SC (Old Senior Certificate) must meet the requirements set out in this prospectus. They should have passed English HG-E or SG-D, Any other four related subjects

National Senior Certificate

Applicants with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) must meet the requirements set out in this prospectus. They should have 3 (40-49%) English and 3 (40-49%) in FOUR recognised school subjects.

National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4

Applicants with a National Certificate (Vocational-Level 4) must meet the requirements set out in this prospectus. Pass all 3 Fundamental subjects including LOTL with 50% and above. 60% pass in three compulsory vocational subjects. 50 % or more for Mathematics and 70% or more for Mathematics literacy

Duration

A three-year diploma.


ADVANCED DIPLOMA: PUBLIC MANAGEMENT

 

Rules and Regulations

The possession of a National Diploma in Public Management and Local Government Finance and any equivalent with relevant subjects shall serve as the general admission requirement in this programme.

Entrance Requirements

A prospective learner must be in possession of a relevant diploma with a 60% average mark of the overall diploma subjects to enrol for the Advanced Diploma Public Management.

Duration
One year full-time


DIPLOMA: HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Rules and Regulations

The possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or its equivalent shall serve as the general admission requirement in this programme.

Entrance Requirements

Senior Certificate Requirement

NSC pass with a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree endorsement. Achievement rating of at least: 3(40-49%) in English. 3(40-49%) in Mathematics OR Mathematical Literacy OR 3(40-49%) in accounting, 3(40-49%) in any TWO and 2(30-39%) of the Following recommended subjects; Agricultural Science, Business Studies, Computer Applications technology (CAT), Consumer Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Home Language, Life Science, Physical Science.

Applicants with SC (Old Senior Certificate) must meet the requirements set out in this prospectus. They should have passed English HG-E or SG-D, Mathematics or Accounting SG- E and SG-E in any three subjects: Economics HG- E, Business Economics HG- E, Accounting HG – E, Physical Science HG – E, and Geography HG – E, Mercantile Law E, Home language E, Biology, Biblical Studies, Agricultural Studies

National Certificate Vocational

1 Fundamental Component: 50% in the following subjects: English, Life Orientation and Mathematics or Mathematically Literacy. 2 Vocational Component: Achievement of 60% in three compulsory vocational subjects from either of the following streams:

Office Administration Stream; Business Practice, Office Data Processing and Office Practice.

Management Stream: Financial Management, Management Practice, Operations Management and Project management

Duration

3 years mainstream and 4 years extended curriculum.


ADVANCED DIPLOMA: HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Rules and Regulations

A diploma in Human Resources Management with 360 credits shall be recognised as a general entry requirement for this programme.

Entrance Requirements

A prospective learner must be in possession of a relevant diploma with of 60% average mark of the relevant major subjects to enrol for the Advanced Diploma Human Resources Management.

Duration

One year full-time


DIPLOMA: LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE (& EXTENDED PROGRAMME)

Overall Purpose of the Qualification

Municipalities across the country are actively enhancing their financial management capacity to ensure they comply with legal requirements for their budgeting and spending. This diploma is aimed at assisting people working as municipal finance officers to improve their qualifications and career prospects.

Senior Certificate (Old)

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (GENERAL)

Purpose

  • The overall purpose of the qualification is to prepare the students for a general introduction to the world of commerce and business by equipping them with basic business skills to manage a business or start a new business.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Minimum statutory NSC requirements for degree entry must be met, that is, an NSC with an achievement rating of 4 (50– 59 %) or better in four subjects chosen from the designated list. To register for the BCom (General) degree a student needs an Admission Point Score (APS) of 28 as well as the NSC

Achievement rating of at least:

Endorsement: NSC (Bachelor’s Degree)

Mathematics 3 (40-49%) or better, no maths literacy, English 4 (50-59%),

Senior Certificate:

Matriculation Exemption, Mathematics HG-E or SG D, English HG -D, SG E

  • Applicants with a National Certificate (Vocational Level-4) must meet the requirements set out in this prospectus as follows:
  • 50% or more for Mathematics or for Mathematics Literacy, 60% pass in three fundamental subjects including LOTL, 60% pass in three compulsory vocational subjects

Underpinning knowledge

  • Students must have a knowledge of business-related disciplines, for example, Business Studies, Economics, Accounting and Mathematics.
  • Also required are good language and numeracy skills.
