GENERAL GUIDE TO WSU HEALTH INFORMATION SERVICES
Welcome to WSU Health Information Services and Resources
Health Information Service is composed of 6 fully operational sites, spread across the Eastern Cape Region:
- Medical Library/Health Sciences Resource Centre
- Mthatha Health Resource Centre
- Queenstown Health Resource Centre
- East London Health Resource Centre
- Port Elizabeth Health Resource Centre
- Lusikisiki Health Resource Centre
All these site libraries strive to open access to quality health information services and resources. Work as collaborating partners, by sharing knowledge, exchange skills and resources thus creating lasting solutions to the most challenging health problems. Work in partnership to support the delivery of community based health services.
- Vision
To offer centres of excellence in providing health information services and resources for the faculty of Health Sciences and the wider communities surrounding it.
- Mission and Objectives
Health Information Libraries support the basic objectives of the Health Sciences Faculty, which are considered under the traditional headings of teaching and scientific research operations. They form an integral part of these activities and its function includes the responsibility to service efficiently, effectively and thoroughly the information needs of the faculty student body. Users from the community are also catered for to limited degree.
Location
- Medical Library/Health Sciences Resource Centre is situated within NMD site campus along Nelson Mandela Drive on the 4th level of Old Library Building. It encompasses mini libraries in the following Primary Health Care Clinics: Stanford Terrace, Ngangelizwe, Mbekweni, Baziya, Mqanduli, Mhlakulo and Qumbu.
- Mthatha Health Resource Centre is within Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital along Fort-Gale Season’s Street in the West of the City Centre. It encompasses the following District Clerkship Hospitals: Malizo Mpehle, Madzikane ka Zulu, St Patricks and Holly Cross.
- Queenstown Health Resource Centre is within Frontier Hospital at Kingsway Street along the North of the City Centre.It encompassesthe following Clerkship Hospitals: All Saints, Settlers and Komani psychiatric Hospital.
- East London Health Resource Centre is at the back of Frere Hospital along Cheltenham It encompasses Cecilia Makiwane.
- Port Elizabeth Health Resource Centre is within Livingstone Hospital in Korstenarea. It encompasses Dora Ngindza and Provincial Hospitals.
- Lusikisiki Health Resource Centre is within St Elizabeth Hospital, Lusikisiki. It encompasses
Madzikane kaZulu and St Patricks Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital.
