A WSU graduate and budding businesswoman’s keen eye for chic, beauty and style have earned her a prestigious continental accolade at an awards ceremony held in Johannesburg recently.
Convocation Executive member Sandiswa Mgolozeli, who owns an interior design company, Epitomely Interior Doctors, added to her ever-growing list of accolades after walking away with top honours at the ‘Forty Under 40 – Africa’ awards held in Sandton recently.
“The Forty under 40 Africa Award is to identify, honour and celebrate a cross-section of the continent’s most influential and accomplished young business leaders under the age 40 from a wide range of industries we cover. These are people who are committed to business growth, professional excellence and community service and have risen up the ranks of their companies or industries at a relatively young age as result of this,” said the events director Richard Abbey Jnr.
Mgolozeli, a Public Relations graduate from the university’s Buffalo City Campus, was nominated and won under the ‘Architecture/Design & Decor’ category for her unrivalled business prowess and sustained impact on society for developing and imparting skills to the community.
“Standing on that platform and receiving that award in a room full of continental excellence I only felt one thing and that was inspired. It was inspirational to be counted amongst the brightest and most innovative movers and shakers in the continent. Such awards are important in encouraging us to go forward because they recognise the hard work and material impact we have on society,” she said.
The importance of leading by example, especially due to her occupying a position in ConvEx, isn’t lost on Mgolozeli, who fully recognizes the responsibility she carries to represent the university well, and be an example to students and other alumni.
“Your actions and behaviour as a leader should inspire and motivate others. This is especially important as a ConvEx member that engages with WSU alumni and indeed students from time to time in pursuit of various university imperatives,” she said.
