Medicine Programmes

  • Our MBChB programme started in 1985 with a traditional programme and later adopted the innovative curriculum based on problem-based learning and community-based education.
  • Learning in the community is also introduced early in the curriculum and the time spent in the community is progressively increased up to final year.
  • A curriculum that is integrated with early clinical exposure progressively increasing up to final year.
  • Small group learning is a central pillar of our teaching and learning strategy.
  • We use an expanded teaching platform across the Eastern Cape Province.
  • The Bachelor of Medical Clinical Practice (Clinical Associate Programme) was introduced in 2008 and had an intake of 23 students.
  • It follows problem-based, community-based curriculum with about 80% of time spend in District Hospitals and surrounding communities.
