Rules and Regulations
The possession of National Senior Certificate (NSC) or its equivalent shall serve as a general admission requirement in this programmes.
Entrance Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) achievement rating of English 4 and Mathematics 2 or Mathematics Literacy 4.
- Two of the following school subjects will be an added advantage:
- CAT 4 (50 – 59%), Accounting 4 (50 – 59%), Business Studies 4 (50 – 59%), Economics 4 (50 – 59%)
- Where learners do not offer subjects in the Business, Commerce and Management category, subjects in other categories may be considered.
- Senior Certificate qualification with a minimum of:
- E Symbol for English (Second Language) (HG) or
- D Symbol for English (Second Language) (SG)
- Level 3 English (First Language).
- E Symbol for Accounting HG & D- SG
- E Symbol for Business Economic & D-SG.
- Preference will be given to learners with at least a 50 % Grade 12 aggregate and to learners with commercial subjects.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Prior learning shall be recognised, subject to the requirements of each programme and as per WSU’s Policy for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
RPL may be used to demonstrate competence for admission into this programme. This qualification may be achieved in part through RPL processes as per WSU’s Policy.
Duration
Four years for diploma.

- English (Additional Language) 4 (50-59), English Home Language 3 (40-49%), Accounting, Business Studies, Computer Applications Technology, Economics and Information Technology 4 (50-59) Agricultural Science, Agricultural Technology, Consumer Studies, Geography, History, Hospitality Studies, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Tourism 4 (50-59) Mathematics 3 (40-49%), Mathematical Literacy 4 (50-59%)
- SUBJECT TO A PLACEMENT TEST
- Senior Certificate - NSC (old)
- English HG-E or SG-D
- Passes in Accounting, Business Studies, Computer Typing, and Economics will be added advantage.
- Preference will be given to learners with at least a 50% grade aggregate.
- Learners only with a minimum aggregate of 950 will be considered.
- SUBJECT TO A PLACEMENT TEST
- National Certificate Vocational (NCV): Additional or alternative requirements

- Meet statutory requirements 50% pass in three (3) fundamental subjects including LOTL 60% pass in three (3) relevant vocational subjects: Business Practice, Office Practice, Office Data Processing, for example, 50% or more for Mathematics or 60% for Mathematics Literacy

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- RPL may be used to demonstrate competence for admission into this programme.
- This qualification may be achieved in part through RPL processes as per WSU’s Policy for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) contained in the WSU General Prospectus (Section 4, Sub-section 1.4).
- Credits achieved through RPL must not exceed 50% of the total credits and must not include credits at the exit level.
- Learners submitting themselves for RPL will be thoroughly briefed prior to the assessment and will be required to submit a Portfolio of Evidence in the prescribed format, for assessment.
Duration
Three years for the diploma.
