The Walter Sisulu University has a new cooperation partnership for student exchange, personnel mobility and other collaborations with the University of Graz, Austria.

The long-term research collaboration is in respect of the EndoAfrica and children/adolescent risk for cardiovascular disease research project, among others.

It is between Prof BN Nkeh-Chungag of Faculty of Natural Sciences, Walter Sisulu University and Prof Nandu Goswami of the Department of Physiology, Medical University of Graz, Austria.

Prof Nandu Goswami and his research team visited the Mthatha Campus of Walter Sisulu University for data collection and scientific exchange several times in 2019.

Cooperation now includes mobility programme

Thanks to this existing collaboration, a new aspect of this cooperation has been extended to include a mobility programme for staff and students from Walter Sisulu University to participate in medical rotations programmes.

Funding to assist 10 5th medical students

The Erasmus Plus funding offers 10 fifth-year medical students the opportunity to spend up to two months at the Medical University of Graz annually, starting in the 2021 academic year.

During these two months, students rotate across various medical departments. Credits earned in the Medical University of Graz are recognised by WSU and credited to the students.

1 of 10 students to be fully funded

Of the 10 selected students, one student will receive full Erasmus Plus funding while the other nine students will be self-funded.

However, the Medical University of Graz will support such students in that no tuition will be required of them.

2021 fifth-year medical students who are interested in this mobility programme should apply using this link.
