Consistent exercise, a high protein diet and a moderate carbohydrate intake could get you a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) body type on your NSFAS budget, according to WSU Consumer Science: Food & Nutrition students.
According to WSU records, 72% of the University’s registered students are on the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
With an escalating standard of living and economic instability, students on NSFAS may find it difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle and fitness goals on overpriced fitness supplements.
The students reasoned that protein helps repair and build your body’s tissues and allow metabolic reactions to take place. Carbohydrates on the other hand provide energy, control blood glucose level, participate in cholesterol and sparing of the use of protein for energy.
“Eating the South African staple, Pap and Spinach which consist of protein and carbohydrates provide you with energy. A tuna sandwich which is high in protein, carbohydrates, fat and fibre will provide energy, improve metabolism and also plays a role in preventing cardiovascular disease,” said WSU Consumer Science: Food & Nutrition Lecturer, Ms Hlubi Xhamlashe.
Consumer Science: Food & Nutrition students graduates have a variety of roles in industry which include expertise as Dietitians, Quality Controllers and fresh Produce Development Technologists among other things.
The students said that the benefits of consuming protein in the morning yield higher energy levels that keep one full for longer durations and keeping blood sugar levels stable.
“Bread and cheese can be found in a combo that is sold at Shoprite for R100, which also includes 18 large eggs, 750g of polony, 500g of margarine and 6×100g of yoghurt,” said the students.
Other recommended breakfast combinations high in protein included:
- brown bread with boiled egg, avocado and cheese
- tuna omelette
- oatmeal smoothie with peanut butter and fruit of choice
- soft maize porridge with peanut butter and milk
“The course is designed to train students for the food manufacturing and retail industries and small entrepreneurial food operations [SMMEs].
Students specialise in various aspects of fresh convenience food development, production, management, and marketing for the industry. It provides the educational base required for eligibility for registration as candidates practising as Food Scientists/Technologists,” added Xhamlashe.
This diet is helpful for weight loss and maintaining weight loss in conjunction with compact body exercise to increase metabolism and the number of calories you burn in a day.
