The Faculty of Management and Public Administration Sciences (FMPAS) is one of the largest Faculties at Walter Sisulu University and is home to approximately 7 500 students. The Faculty is located in the Butterworth Campus (IBIKA) of WSU and is situated approximately halfway between Mthatha and East London. Certain Faculty programmes are offered at the Buffalo City Campus Delivery Site as well as the Komani (Queenstown) campus delivery site.

The Faculty offers programmes ranging from higher certificates to post graduate programmes in Public Administration. Many of the programme offerings have extended curriculum programmes to provide additional access opportunities for learners into the programmes offered in the Faculty.  

Graduates from the faculty are equipped with the skills and competencies that allow them to enter and contribute in various areas within the national and global economy as entrepreneurs and skilled professionals who work in commerce and industry, in both the public and private sectors. Some of our qualifications prepare graduates for specialised areas of employment in radio, television, general media, public relations, hotel management, sport management and tourism.

NQF Level 6 qualification with 360 credits in a cognate discipline with the achievement of not less than 60% for the majors and an average of 60% for the qualification.

This qualification provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in business management roles, covering the fundamental areas of business management, such as economics, marketing, project management, and financial management. It emphasises organisational efficacy, which is the ability of an organisation to achieve its goals.

Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management

NQF Level 6 qualification with 360 credits in a cognate discipline with the achievement of not less than 60% for the majors (Human Resources Management 3, Labour Relations 2 and Human Resources Development 2) and an average of 60% for the qualification.

This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to advance their careers in human resources. It covers a wide range of topics, including human resource planning and development, recruitment and selection, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, labour law, occupational health and safety, and diversity and inclusion.

Advanced Diploma in Journalism

This qualification focuses on gathering, assessing and presenting news and information through print, electronic and social media platforms. It exposes students to advanced industry-specific methods using state-of-the-art equipment (photographic and video cameras, the latest computer programmes and computer laboratories).

Advanced Diploma in Management

The purpose is to develop the competence and skills to administer and perform Public Relations functions in a global environment using the latest technologies.

Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management      W61028

NQF Level 6 qualification in a cognate discipline with the achievement of not less than 60% for the majors and an average of 60% for the qualification.

The qualifying students will be competent to independently manage and integrate specialist activities within the tourism system.

Bachelor of Administration Honours

NQF Level 7 qualification in a cognate discipline with the achievement of not less than 60% for the majors and an average of 60% for the qualification.

The purpose is to develop and train post-graduates who are capable of leading extensive governmental and non-governmental administrative transformation, as well as to provide guidance for improved infrastructures and services delivery using the specialised knowledge and skills learned, which will also enable them to operate in all governmental departments and agencies as junior level or senior executive employees.

Master of Public Administration

NQF Level 8 qualification in a cognate discipline with achievement not less than 60% for the qualification.

This qualification provides comprehensive Public Sector Leadership in all spheres of government. It will enable students successfully to demonstrate abilities and competencies in recognised and niche areas such as public finance and procurement, local government management and finance, public policy making, ethics in the public sector, rural and urban development, effective service delivery, leadership and good governance, programme and project management and research.
