The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at iYunivesithi Walter Sisulu is South Africa's oldest rural medical school. Established in 1985 to serve rural, underserved and segregated communities using a community-based, problem-based and community oriented curricula, the faculty boasts 3 Schools and 12 Departments which have produced over 7000 graduates since its inception.
Our accredited joint Academic Health Platform with the Eastern Cape Department of Health and the National Health Laboratory Service, which operates in both urban and rural settings, includes all levels of care ranging from the community, households, clinics and community health centres through district hospitals, specialised hospitals and regional hospitals to tertiary and central hospitals.
