Walter Sisulu University (WSU) continues to position itself as a university of choice, attracting high-performing students- a clear indicator of a growing confidence in the institution amongst new applicants.

More and more matriculants view the university as a source of quality education that gives graduates the edge in the highly competitive job market.

The university has noted with delight how academically gifted students ready to be challenge and stretched to reach full potential, are showing more interest at WSU’s well-balanced courses.

Among them is Zizipho Bhilitile, who was the second top achiever in the Alfred Nzo East district’s circuit 8, with outstanding results in the 2025 matric class.

The learner has enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts in English in the Faculty of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences in Mthatha’s, Zamukulungisa Site.

The former Vukayibambe Senior Secondary School matriculant will be sharpening her mind with WSU for the next three years.

Reflecting on her splendid set of results, she described the moment as both surprising and rewarding.

“I was over the moon. I honestly was not expecting to be at the top, it was a proud moment that reminded me that hard work really does pay off”, Bhilitile said.

She attributed her academic success to dedication, discipline, and consistency throughout her schooling. According to Bhilitile, maintaining focus and putting in sustained effort played a critical role in her performance.

“Dedication and hard work contributed the most to my academic journey, I stayed committed to my goals, even when things became challenging”, she said.

Bhilitile chose to pursue a BA in English following her passion for writing and analysing literature.

“There is something magical about English, it allows you to explore culture, emotion and ideas through books and stories. It also gives you the opportunity to understand people and society better”, said Bhilitile

She further highlighted the versatility of the qualification, noting that it opens doors to a wide range of career opportunities.

Her decision to enrol at WSU was influenced by the institution’s strong focus on student development and its reputation for nurturing academic growth.

“WSU stood out for me because of its commitment to developing students, since arriving here, I have experienced opportunities that contribute to both my academic and personal growth”, she said.

As a message to fellow students, Bhilitile emphasised the importance of self-belief and perseverance saying that if you believe in yourself and your capabilities, everything is possible and that dedication and hard work will always take you far.
