The CPTD is the custodian of all postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Education (FE or the Faculty). The mandate of the CPTD Department is to produce graduates that would help tackle challenges which communities face daily. Being part of a University that has predominantly rural settings, it is important that we develop students who have an understanding of a rural operational environment but are cognisant of the developmental trends at local and global scales. The CPTD resonates around teaching and learning, research, and community engagement.
The Department is keen to develop graduates who utilise research to solve community challenges and bring positive change to the society. Priority is given to the nature of our student experiences as they journey with us. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), which is also in line with national development priorities, is inculcated as a pathway to developing competent graduates who can steer their classrooms, schools, departments, and workplaces for improved stakeholder livelihood.
The dedicated CPTD staff do everything possible to serve the students. At postgraduate level, students’ input and independence, especially during supervision, does matter, and everyone needs to play their part without compromise. It is critical that they they are reminded to prioritisetheir studies and commit to reciprocate the support they get from the Department, the Faculty and the University. As a continuously learning Department, the CPTD strives and promises to improve our services on a continual basis as we are keen to see the students ultimately complete their studies on a record time.
