SLCU LAUNCHES TOASTMASTERS CLUB TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' SOFT SKILLS
To strategically enhance academic performance and help students grow, Walter Sisulu University launched its Toastmasters Club, a significant milestone in its commitment to producing confident, articulate and career ready graduates.
The launch held at the Komani Campus, brought together student representatives and staff members from all campuses. The main aim was to introduce the Toastmasters programme and to establish its value to the WSU community.
Manager for the Student Life and Co-curricular Unit, Khanyisa Mbali, noted that it very important to have empowering programmes that provide life-long learning and leadership experiences that will give students competitive urge in the work environment.
“As part of building a well-rounded student, the university need to invest in improving public speaking for the student community, as this improves their employability and makes them more competent in the world of work once they graduate, “she said.
Toastmasters is an international programme designed to help individuals to improve their public speaking, communication and leadership skills through practice and feedback. As part of global network, WSU’s Toastmasters Club will align with Toastmasters International through association.
Anelisa Mzumana, the President of Region District, Komani Toastmasters Club noted the importance of working on-self.
Mzumana added that while they were building on their hard skills, they should also build and master soft skills.
The launch of the Toastmasters marks a significant beginning of a new student group, it highlights how WSU envisions academic success and beyond.
