WSU TO OFFER POSGRAD DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING IN 2026
The Department of Accounting and Taxation is celebrating yet another milestone after receiving an endorsement to offer Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting, from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
This comes after what the Head of Department, Senzo Ndlangamandla, described a transformative and vision-driven journey to long-term change.
“We knew that the only thing that can stop us is ourselves, because we are getting all the support that we need. This journey began late in 2022, with vast support from University of Cape Town and university stakeholders,” said Ndlangamandla.
The journey, launched in late 2022, was driven by a three-party memorandum of agreement between WSU, UCT, and SAICA, with shared responsibilities and strong financial backing from the university and partners.
Focused on building internal capacity, it moved from collaborative planning in 2023 to intensive staff development and programme design, leading up to the 2025 endorsement.
“We’ve chosen a workshop-based teaching model to get students more involved and active in class. We believe this approach will enhance learning quality and better align with how today’s generation learns,” said Ndlangamandla.
He added, “It’s about moving from teaching at students to learning with them.”
The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Financial Sciences, Prof Manoj Panicker applauded the achievement and coned it an elevation of the faculty’s academic profile.
“In the broader context, the programme supports regional development by addressing the shortage of qualified accountants, fostering local economic growth, and enabling our graduates to serve as ethical and competent professionals in their communities,” said Panicker.
He added that the programme advances academic excellence, boosts graduate employability, and supports regional development by producing skilled professionals for the public and private sectors.
This is in line with faculty’s objectives which were outlined at the 2025 State of the Faculty Address (SOFA) delivered by the Executive Dean at Zamukulungisa Site in February.
Panicker said, “in the broader context, the programme supports regional development by addressing the shortage of qualified accountants, fostering local economic growth, and enabling our graduates to serve as ethical and competent professionals in their communities.”
