Meet the staff: Department of Built Environment
Stemming from his Master of Architecture and PhD in Construction Management research,Dr. Goldswain has produced a substantial body of scholarly work focusing on construction health, safety, ergonomics, and the role of architectural design in improving industry outcomes. His research has been accepted and presented at both local and international conferences and published in a highly regarded accredited journal. These outputs address themes such as improving occupant health and safety in informal settlements, mitigating construction health, safety, and ergonomics risks through architectural design, and developing architectural design models to enhance construction safety in South Africa. His work has been disseminated through platforms including the cidb Postgraduate Conference, TG59 Conference, CIB W099 Conferences (held in Washington DC and Singapore), the ARCOM Conference in the United Kingdom, and the Third Construction Management Conference in Port Elizabeth. His peer-reviewed journal publication appeared in Acta Structilia (Vol. 22, No. 1, 2015), with additional accepted work in the Journal of Construction Project Management and Innovation, as well as contributions to international safety and health conferences, including the Joint CIB W099 and TG59 International Safety, Health, and People in Construction Conference held in Cape Town in 2017.
In addition to his research contributions, Craig served as a member of the International Scientific Committee for the 2017 Joint CIB W099 and TG59 Conference, where he reviewed and evaluated numerous research papers submitted to the conference, further contributing to academic quality assurance and scholarly discourse in the field.
Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Goldswain values quality time with friends and family, particularly his wife and children. He has a strong personal interest in environmentally responsible living and enjoys designing and transforming his home into a more sustainable space that integrates architecture, nature, and the garden.
