Department of Business Management and Economics - Overview (HOD)
Mr. Vikela Liso Sithole
I warmly welcome you to the Department of Business Management and Economics. Our department takes pride in its tradition of producing graduates who possess strong employability skills across various sectors of the economy. These sectors include public and private management, human resources, banking, insurance, government, retail, manufacturing, and more. Our academic offerings encompass postgraduate programs at the Honours and Master’s in Business Management and Economics.
At present, our department administers three distinct bachelor's degree programs. These programs are the Bachelor of Commerce, the Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management, and the Bachelor of Commerce in Economics. The significance of the Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management is rising as governmental and private entities increasingly recognize it. Consequently, we emphasize entrepreneurship, business management, and transformative development within this program. It equips students for careers in various sectors and lays the foundation for advanced studies and acquiring competencies required for effective management at both functional and strategic levels.
The Bachelor of Commerce in Economics program is designed to address economic challenges that impact diverse aspects, including the environment, politics, society, and the economy. The program focuses on generating solutions through policy interventions. The Department of Business Management and Economics is actively training economists to contribute to realizing the long-term objectives outlined in the 2030 National Development Plan. We aim to address the triple socio-economic challenges of unemployment, inequality, and poverty. The department's postgraduate programs are designed to equip students with strategic skills for the global job market and to prepare them for advanced research, including potential enrolment in doctoral programs.
