The purpose of this qualification is to equip the graduate with the necessary skills to perform financial, taxation related, auditing and management accounting functions as part of a finance team or independently. It serves as a foundation for further studies in accounting fields such as the Accounting Technician qualification, Chartered Management Accountant etc.
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a diploma or bachelor's endorsement and achievement in the subjects as follows:
• English level 3
• Mathematics level 3
• Two additional subjects’ level 3
Admission point score of 21 or above
Teaching and learning activities are structured in a way that focuses on the students learning experiences and creates opportunities for development via feedback. Students must be prepared to work independently using their own initiative in order to develop the ability to reason methodically and think creatively.
The Qualification has the following assessment strategies:
• Formative assessment: there will be a minimum of two assessments per course per semester where the assessment can either be two written tests or one written test and assignment.
• Summative assessment: will take the form of a three-hour examination paper at the end of the semester or year.
The Diploma in Accountancy will be awarded to those students who have completed the Qualification and obtained a minimum of 360 credits, and a total of 30 instructional offerings.
