PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The degree is a 480-credit qualification offered over four years on a full-time basis.

Students are required to study three major subject areas:

• Major A – Main FET major with content and teaching up to Level III
• Major B – Second FET major with content and teaching up to Level II
• Major C – Senior Phase major with content and teaching up to Level II

Students may select from the following subject combinations:

In all options, Technology (Senior Phase) is compulsory and must be selected as Major C and studied up to Level II.

QUALIFICATION NAME: Advanced Diploma in Technical and Vocational Teaching

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum admission requirement is an appropriate 360-credit qualification at Exit Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), such as:

• An undergraduate diploma (including College Diploma N6), or
• A Bachelor's degree at NQF Level 7

The qualification must include adequate disciplinary learning in cognate academic fields at the exit level of the prior qualification.

The prior qualification must be linked to a teaching specialisation relevant to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) context. Where disciplinary subject knowledge is insufficient, additional learning courses may be required before the qualification can be awarded.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Advanced Diploma in Technical and Vocational Teaching is a professional initial teacher qualification designed for individuals who already hold an appropriate diploma or degree (NQF Level 6 or higher) and wish to enter or advance within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

This one-year qualification, comprising 120 credits at NQF Level 7, serves as a “capping” qualification that equips graduates with the pedagogical knowledge, practical teaching skills, and professional competencies required for effective teaching and learning in vocational and occupational education environments.

The programme prepares graduates to respond to the evolving needs of the TVET sector while promoting quality teaching, curriculum implementation, learner support, and workplace-based learning.
