iYunivesithi Walter Sisulu as with all 26 universities in South Africa, is required to develop a statute with other stakeholders.  This statute provides a legal framework that guides the University’s governance activities.

As the juristic entity and part of the government's university network, Walter Sisulu is guided by the Higher Education Act.
